In order to purchase a property in Spain you will need a valid passport or identification card for your country. You will also need an N.I.E. number, this is your Foreigners Identification number. You will not be able to proceed a sale without this document, as when purchasing, you will have to pay taxes, and you will need an N.I.E. number to pay these taxes. We would highly recommend that when purchasing a property in Nerja or the surrounding areas, that you contract a Lawyer, to make sure there are no debts on the property you are buying, and also to make sure it is legal. The lawyer will also make sure all utility bills, IBI tax and community fees are up to date, and you are not inheriting any debt.
